Chichén Itzá is the most famous archaeological site of Mayan culture, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and one of the "Seven New Wonders of the World." The site spans an area of 6.5 square kilometers and can be explored in a single day. The most impressive views and structures in Chichén Itzá are located in the central area. Here, you will find the Ballgame court, various platforms, temples, and the spectacular Castle (Pyramid of Kukulkan), a massive 25-meter stone structure that represents the Mayan calendar. Each year, during the spring and fall equinoxes, the sun creates the illusion of a serpent ascending or descending the steps of the Pyramid of Kukulkan, a remarkable phenomenon that draws large crowds. This illusion is also recreated in a sound and light show that takes place every night at the archaeological site. You can visit Chichén Itzá on a day trip or choose to stay overnight at the nearby Hacienda Chichen, a beautifully restored 16th-century estate that has been transformed into a luxury hotel and spa.
