Creel México

Creel is a town in the Sierra Tarahumara (part of the Sierra Madre Occidental) in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It is the second-largest town (after San Juanito) in the municipality of Bocoyna, located about 175 kilometers (109 miles) southwest of the state capital, Chihuahua City. At the 2010 census, it had a population of 5,026, down from 5,338 in 2005. Creel is notable for its large Indigenous Rarámuri (Tarahumara) population, and the Rarámuri language is widely used in daily life and in public events such as church services. Historically a logging center, Creel has shifted over the past 20 years to a tourism-based economy due to its proximity to Copper Canyon and to Basaseachic Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in Mexico. The town offers many hotels and restaurants, as well as tours into the canyons and the surrounding Sierra Tarahumara region.
